چکیده
The Ontology of " Online Being " and the (re)allocation of the " Ciborg " notion. INTRODUCTION: Cyborgs and their role inside cyberculture studies. The term " cyborg " , is becoming more and more popular these days, especially among " cyberculture " studies. A cyborg, in the broadest sense, is referred as a transgressive mixture between " cybernetics " and an " organism " , or in more theoretical terms: " the cyborg is the interface of the organic with the technological; the technicizing of the human and the humanizing of technology, i.e. the body as both the hardware of machines and software for machines … The cyborg is partly the product of surgical implantation, where the machine and/or the simulations it generates (as in cosmetic surgery) penetrate the surface of the body. The cyborg is also the product of the daily interaction of perception/ cognition with the screen, where the body melts into the electronic images that it receives, reflects and transmits. " (Fitzpatrick, 1999) This concept, as abstract as it may be, has been traditionally portrayed and materialized in the science fiction genre. For example , " Cyberpunk " literature (such as William Gibson and in some sense, Issac Asimov as well) is filled with imaginings of cyborgic entities; as well as Japanese Manga comics where the figure of robotized beings has been a powerful image present for decades, where humans (either piloting walking machines, transforming into them or just having implanted robotized prosthesis) give birth to new entities on which the boundaries between organic and machine are not always clear. This is particularly evident in worldwide acclaimed Anime movies and series such as AKIRA, Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell , which are themed with the fundamental question: what is it to be a human?; and the search for the answer by exploring it among transgressive human-technology relationships. Hollywood has given its own versions of cyborgs as well, in movies like Robocop, Total Recall and the " William Gibson inspired " Johnny Mnemonic, which portray stories of cyborgic humans (either by implantation of robotized limbs or prosthetic memory modules) whose self identity is tied with personal subjective memories, to the point of suggesting that changing such fundamental memories will result in overall change of identity itself. There have even been much more deep philosophical attempts to portray cyborg reflections in movies such as A.I. and Blade …
